Mission Alert: High Park Lightpainting – Part II – UPDATED AGAIN!
Posted by Jeff | Filed under mission alerts
UPDATED: Last week’s mission has been postponed one week. Updated details below.
UPDATED YET AGAIN: Weather has foiled our night’s planned photo missioning. Tomorrow’s forecast looks promising, so the mission has been postponed to tomorrow night, Saturday, October 10.
Join us this Saturday, October 10, 2009 as we venture yet again into the dark depths of High Park for another night of epic lightpainting photomissioning.
Check out the mission report from Part I:
http://jeffhiggins.smugmug.com/Photomissions/HighParklightpainting/
We’ll be meeting at the entrance to High Park at Bloor & High Park Avenue at 9PM.
** NO CAMERA IS NEEDED FOR THIS MISSION **
Lightpainting missions tend to be collaborative efforts, so don’t feel like you need to lug your gear along. Just bring some warm clothes, some crazy lights, and your butt.
RSVP via Facebook if you can. And don’t forget to sign up for our new email newsletter, which will eventually replace Facebook. Call me if you’re running late: 416-825-5825.
See you there!

Missionaries!
Tonight Matt and I will rendezvous at Old Mill station at 9PM for another Humber Park/Bloor West photo mission. We’ll hang around the convenience store inside the station until about 9:15PM, then will be heading down into the Humber park.

Tonight we’re suggesting the usual gear for night shooting – tripods, flashes, fast lenses, and lights if you’re up for some light painting.
See you at Old Mill!

Mission Alert: Friday Night Photo Mission!
Posted by Jeff | Filed under mission alerts
This Friday we will be running a nighttime photomission in Magwood Park near Humbercrest and St. Marks, starting at 8:30ish. See photomissisons.ca for examples of what we’re going for and more details: http://www.photomissions.ca/?p=69. We’ve been doing a lot of light painting lately, so this time we’re making it optional and we’ll be going for different kinds of night shots.
Map: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=St.+Marks+and+Pasadena,+Toronto,+ON
For this mission, we’re recommending you bring:
- Any type of camera that can do long exposures
- Tripod, if you have one
- Charged batteries and empty memory cards
- Water (beer) and snacks
- Optional: Flashlights, LEDs, lasers, flashes…
- Optional: Cable release/remote control for your camera, if you have one
- Optional: A wide-angle lens, since it’s tough to know what’s in frame in the dark
- Optional: Patience, good attitude, and a desire to learn and have fun
I should be there for 8:30ish. Call ahead (416-825-5825) or email (4168255825 at pcs dot rogers dot calm) for more info, since we may be moving around (the forecast doesn’t look that great, so we may be heading for shelter).
We hope to see you there!
Mission Alert: Another short-notice light painting mission tomorrow (Friday)!

Tomorrow night (Friday, October 17) we will be continuing the Light Man saga in Magwood Park near Humbercrest and St. Marks, starting at 8:30ish. See photomissisons.ca for examples of what we’re going for and more details.
Mission Report from last week’s Friday night mission
** YOU DO NOT NEED A CAMERA FOR THIS MISSION! **
Bring one along if you want, but when doing video light painting, we’re usually only shooting with one camera, but everyone gets the credit. It’s all about the painting – the stuff behind the camera is the easy part.
For this mission, we’re recommending you bring:
- Flashlights! LEDs! Lasers! We need as many different kinds of lights as possible.
- Water (beer) and snacks, since we’ll be out for 4-5 hours.
- Patience, good attitude, and a desire to learn and have fun
- Optional: Camera with manual controls (not usually needed, but it is to do light painting)
- Optional: Tripod, if you have one
- Optional: Cable release/remote control for your camera, if you have one
- Optional: A wide-angle lens, since it’s tough to know what’s in frame in the dark
Matt, Brett and I should be there for 8:30ish. Feel free to call or email for more info. We probably won’t be moving, so come by whenever you like.
See you there.

Mission Alert: A lazy Sunday TODAY (Oct 12) @ 5PM downtown!
Posted by Jeff | Filed under mission alerts
That’s right – we’re NOT light painting this time! This is a plain-vanilla downtown photo mission. We’ll be wandering around, so PLEASE CALL my cell if you’re planning on joining us after the 5PM start time. My cell is 416-825-5825.
For this mission, we’re recommending you bring:
- Any type of camera
- Charged batteries and empty memory cards
- Water and snacks, since we’ll be out for 4-5 hours
- Patience, good attitude, and a desire to learn and have fun
You may want to bring along a tripod if you’re not confident in your camera’s low-light abilities, since we’ll be out after dusk.
Rendezvous point is the giant mushroom at the Toronto Sculpture Garden. This is across from St. James Church right at King and Church. It’s a few blocks east of the King subway station.
Matt and I will be under the giant mushroom at 5PM. We’ll hang around for about 30 minutes, then we’ll be going wherever the phototography takes us.
That’s it for now. Again our apologies for the short notice. We’re aiming to give at least 5 days notice for all missions, but Thanksgiving kind of screwed us up for this one.
We’ll see you under the mushroom!
Mission Alert: Short-notice Light Painting III, today (Friday) @ 8PM!

Apologies for the short notice. Thanksgiving has messed up our scheduling here. Anyhow.
Tonight we will be trying out some light painting YET AGAIN in Magwood Park near Humbercrest and St. Marks, starting at 8ish. See photomissisons.ca for examples of what we’re going for and more details.
